Message So I've had my Z since 99 and I've recently been in the process of refurbishing it. Did the Stillen exhaust, custom stainless downpipe to handle the AIV port on a new non-stock cats (done quite well BTW), JWT cone filter, engine tune-up, etc. I recently overhauled the suspension and have come to find that even with adjustable tension rods and upper arms, my driver-side front wheel still won't align to spec. (I even put some shims on the upper control arm and it's fully extended!) Well, I had my mechanic (Steve Ehlers of Rising Sun Performance in Ft Worth) check it out and he says there's something funky going on, like the car's either been hit or someone hit a curb to knock the entire steering assy in a funky way. Anyway he needs to put it up and measure the points on the frame for alignment and see what's up in more detail. The engine seems to be burning/leaking some oil (about 1/2 qt between 2K interval changes), so I'm going to have to tear things up and replace all the gaskets, et.al. Timing belt's coming up soon, and that's just the mechanical stuff. I still need to re-upholster the interior and tear out my greatly-aged bose system. So, I guess my question is where is the point you would give up on the car and start looking for a replacement? I picked up the car for 7K (guess you get what you pay for) and have since put in nearly 10K. The road ahead if I keep the car entails probably another 10K. How much have you guys put into your Z over the years? Have you brought your Z from near-death to near-perfection, or is it best to take the time and effort to find that perfect creampuff and start over? Comments?
